Understanding the Cost of Watch Ownership
The price on a listing is only one part of owning a mechanical watch. Before choosing a piece, it helps to understand the practical costs that may arise over the years you wear it.
Servicing and condition
Mechanical watches require maintenance. The timing and cost depend on the movement, its condition and the work needed. Ask what is known about the service history, whether a recent service is documented and who can support that particular model.
Straps, bracelets and everyday use
A replacement strap, bracelet adjustment or damaged clasp can add to the cost of ownership. Consider how the watch will be used, whether it is comfortable and whether suitable parts remain available. Water resistance should be checked before relying on it, particularly with older pieces.
Insurance and secure delivery
If you plan to insure a watch, ask your insurer what documentation and valuation it requires. When buying remotely, check the seller’s delivery arrangements and the information supplied with the watch.
Understand the individual offer
Condition, preparation and commercial warranty can differ between watches. Tempvs Pre-Retail watches are offered earlier in our stock cycle, generally before routine cosmetic preparation or servicing unless stated otherwise. They do not include the additional Tempvs 12-month commercial warranty. Statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Read the individual listing and condition report, ask about any unclear detail and choose a watch whose ownership requirements suit you.
